Theauthor calls attention to the *fact that inelectro-meter measurements of such poten-tials, which are of the order of the Voltacontact potentials, it is necessary to con-sider all electro-motive forces which ap-pear between the single metallic parts ofthe electrometer or the whole electrometersystem, when they touch each other. Insuch cases the metals to be investigatedand the metals of which the electrometeris composed have to be of the same nature.If, however, the electrometer quadrantswere of brass there was always the voltaicelectromotive force of brass against lead,aluminum, etc., acting in the system.These forces generate potentials, the valueof which is equal to or greater than thosemeasured by the first-named experiment-ers. If the above influence of the voltaicpotentials has not been excluded, there isno necessity to assume a general and spon-taneous electronic emanation of all metal-lic surfaces.—Phys.
