Cancer of the Breast, after Primary Operation.Case of Dr. I. N. Scott, Kansas City, Mo. at present in claiming a parasitic originfor carcinoma. The experience of cen-turies with medication has demonstratedthat thus far carcinoma is not materiallybettered in this way. Direct medica-tion of carcinomatous tissue by paren-chymatous injections has no influence, while the injection of sclerogenic sub-stances into the surrounding connectivetissue appears to restrain the local ex-tension by impairing the blood supply.Local applications of any kind for ulcer-ative carcinoma can be only palliativeat best. The actual cautery and chem-ical caustics have only a limited field ofusefulness in open inoperable carcinomaand should never be used in treatmentof closed carcinoma in place of theknife. The serum treatment has yieldedonly negative results. The early andradical operative treatment offers theonly prospect for permanently eliminat-ing the disease, which can be deter-mined only after a lapse of 1
