| Description |
English: This collar is made with the plastic caps of crack cocaine vials found on the sidewalk outside my studio, and the used insulin syringes of an fellow artist living with diabetes. It references 21st century African Maasai beaded collars made with European tubular glass beads similar to those favored by 16th century traders when purchasing and enslaving Africans. It speaks of our dependency upon on both “legal” and “illegal” drugs, new forms of bondage - sometimes chemical, and the economic forces that built the New World, and that continue to impact the neighborhood around my studio.
