Text Appearing Before Image: While tackingnear the shore she missed stays, became unmanageable and ran intothe schooner Sarah & Lucy, that was anchored in the lee of the land.Believing that the pilot boat would sink, the two pilots and fivemen that were on board leaped to the deck of the schooner. At thatminute the wind struck the pilot boats mainsail, the sheet of whichwas fast, and she forged away from the schooner, headed out tosea and disappeared in the darkness without a soul on board. Thenext day the schooner brought the men to the city. The same daythe skipper of the fishing schooner Daboll saw a strange vessel beat-ing about wildly approximately fifteen miles south of Squam. Heran down to her, recognized her and thought something serious hadhappened on board. He kept close to her until she ran into thewind, when he boarded her and brought her to the city. The dam-age to the Enchantress was slight and the pilots who had abandonedher were greatly surprised when they sighted her coming up thebav. — 39 Text Appearing After Image: «M ^ OSCO o *-i z o •Jl &* fc U+ —- O s 3j ^■^ ^H •** ^ < • 5 H w ^^» long after his dead mates had been buried before Dexter, unable to drive the harrowing sight of his drowning comrades fromhis memory, requ Note About Images Please note that these images are extracted from scanned page images that may have been digitally enhanced for readability - coloration and appearance of these illustrations may not perfectly resemble the original work. |
