Summary
[edit]DescriptionAmbaston Starfish site - geograph.org.uk - 1269152.jpg |
English: Ambaston Starfish site The scrub in the middle distance covers the remains of the Ambaston Starfish site. This was one of a series of installations set up in WWII to the south of Derby to mimic the Rolls-Royce aero engine factories at night. When German bombers were overhead, these sites used burning oil and electric lights to fool their crews into believing they were dropping their bombs on burning factories, when in fact they were exploding harmlessly in open countryside. |
