Description

Amanita ocreata Peck

Image location: Rockville Hills Regional Park, Solano Co., California, USA

Growing scattered around an Oak. Caps up to 10.5cm across. Most fbs were leggy and difficult to extract from ground without losing portions of the volva and base. Spore print was white and spores amyloid. Spores were quite variable, ellipsoid to pear-shaped. Spores ~ 9.0-13.0 X 6.5-9.4 microns. Q(range) = 1.24-1.49(1.64) Q(avg) = 1.37 n=23 KOH on cap turned yellow. These appear to the “salmon” colored version of Amanita ocreata. Also, the spores on some of them curiously shaped but surprisingly the average size and Q values are quite close to normal per RET’s website.
