Description
Deutsch: Die am 9. September 2013 enthüllte Stadttafel Hannover; Abschrift:

„Hier lebte Herschel Grünspan, 28. März 1921 - vermutl. ermordet. Seine Familie war polnisch-jüdischer Herkunft. 1936 emigrierte er nach Frankreich. In Paris erfuhr er von der Deportation der Juden polnischer Staatsangehörigkeit am 28.10.1938, darunter seine eigene Familie. Er schoss in der deutschen Botschaft den Sekretär vom Rath als Vertreter des Unrechtsregimes am 7.11.1938 nieder. Seine Tat diente als Vorwand für den Terror der Pogromnacht auf den 10.11.1938. Ausgeliefert nach Deutschland ließ man ihn im Konzentrationslager Sachsenhausen und im Gefängnis Moabit zunächst am Leben. Ein mit ihm geplanter Schauprozess gegen die ‚jüdische Weltverschwörung‘ wurde wegen der Homosexualität vom Raths nicht geführt. Grünspans Todesumstände sind nicht bekannt ...“

Herschel Grynszpan lived here. Born into a Polish-Jewish family. He emigrated to France in 1936. On learning of the deportation of Polish-Jews from Germany on 28.10.1938, including his own family, he assassinated the German diplomat vom Rath as a representative of the Nazi regime on 7.11.1938. His act served as a pretext for the pogrom of November 1938. Grynszpan was extradicted to Germany where he was held in Sachsenhausen concentration camp and Moabit prison. The circumstances of his death are unknown.
