Description
English: Alwington Schoolhouse, Alwington, Devon. Viewed from south. Situated immediately to the west of Alwington Parish Church. An inscribed stone tablet high on the east gable end of the building states "This building was erected in 1836 by Mrs and the Miss Morrisons with the sanction of the Lord Bishop of Exeter for the education of the children of Alwington parish in the principles of the Established Church". Anna Rolle Wollocombe (1781-1860) (Mrs Morrison) was the widow of Rev. Thomas Hooper Morrison (1768-1824) of Yeo Vale, Alwington (owner of Hartland Abbey), a Fellow of New College, Oxford and Rector of Alwington and Vicar of Launcells, Cornwall. He left three sisters, Anne, Eleanor and Elizabeth, as his co-heiresses, the "Miss Morrisons"
