Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Clazomenian sarcophagus. In Klazomenai in Asia Minor, special tub-shaped clay sarcophagi were produced. The decorations on the frame – mainly groups of fighting animals, chimaerai and battle scenes – are taken from the figurative repertoire of Eastern Greek vase painting and oriented towards the ideals of the nobility. Klazomenai (Turkey), clay, 500-480 BC.
