Description
Deutsch: Das heutige Gebäude des Alters- und Pflegeheims Bürgerspital, vormals Heiliggeist-Spital beim Fischmarktplatz in Rapperswil wurde 1845 von Felix Wilhelm Kubly erstellt. Mit der Stadtgründung (1229) wurde ein Pilgerhospiz gebaut und 1354 von Herzog Albrecht ein neues Spital, vermutlich am heutigen Standort des Pflegeheims, errichtet. 1537 wird der Spitalgeistliche auch als Pfarrer in Bollingen erwähnt. Die Ortsbürger übernahmen im 19. Jahrhundert die Rechte und Pflichten des Spitals. Die Neugestaltung des Innern und eine Aussenrestaurierung erfolgten 1988; seither steht das Gebäude unter Denkmalschutz.
English: The former Heiliggeist-Spital (built in 1845, first mentioned in 13th century as Pilgrim's hospiz) is situated at the Fischmarktplatz in Rapperswil (SG).
