Marble. Acquired from Rome in 1898. The altar is decorated on all four sides. On the front the inscription reads: VIBIAE PYTHIADI / VIBIUS LYNX CONIUGI (Vibius Lynx (whose first name is missing) dedicated the altar to his wife Vibia Pythias). On the front three dancing females, evidently maenads, in flowing transparent garments. |
