Description
Deutsch: Altar (Ausschnitt) der Michaelskapelle in Bad Godesberg; an den Balkenenden des Kreuzes, das Michael trägt, sind die Buchstaben P und F zu sehen; die Buchstabenfolge PFFP steht für das Motto des Ordens vom Heiligen Michael: Principi Fidelis Favere Patriae (dem Fürsten treu ergeben, dem Vaterland gewogen). Der Erzengel tritt auf den Kopf des Satans, den er an die Kette gelegt hat. Im Hintergrund die Grotte am Monte Gargano (Monte Sant' Angelo); die Figuren im Vordergrund sind Bischof Laurentius von Siponto, dem (einer Legende zufolge) der Erzengel erschienen ist, und Garganus, ein Viehzüchter, der seinen unbotmäßigen Stier mit Pfeil und Bogen erschießen wollte (aber der Pfeil kehrte vor seinem Ziel um und verwundete den Schützen); Quelle: Ferdinand Gregorovius: Wanderjahre in Italien (Kapitel Der Erzengel auf dem Berge Garganus), Projekt Gutenberg.
