Nili Fossae is often on the short-list for potential landing sites for exploration, usually due to the interesting minerals that have been detected here.

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Nili Fossae is often on the short-list for potential landing sites for exploration, usually due to the interesting minerals that have been detected here. The CRISM instrument onboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter has helped to confirm large exposures of olivine and other minerals like iron oxides.

In this observation, we’re interested in finding possible clays along a fracture in the eastern region of Nili Fossae, which is a large group of concentric grabens located near the Isidis impact basin in the Northern Hemisphere of Mars.

Image cutout is less than 5 km (3 mi) across and is 282 km (175 mi) above the surface. For full images including scale bars, visit the source link.
