Description
English: Portrait of Isabella de' Medici (1542-1576), formerly identified as Laudomia de' Medici (1518-1560); dress with satin-edged slashes closed by clusters of pearls, is further enriched by a luxury accessory of which Eleonora owned for: a sable tippet with gold encrusted head. Ermines were closely associated with pregnancy, perhaps apotropaic as Isabella had several failed pregnancies prior to 1571
