Summary
[edit]DescriptionAllington Old Manor House.jpg |
English: Allington Old Manor Bottesford Road. Grade II* Listed the Old Manor dates back to 1450. During the later part of the Seventeenth Century the Old Manor House received its Dutch gables and took on its familiar appearance. It had been occupied by the Grants from the middle of the Sixteenth Century and owned by them from the beginning of the Seventeenth. In 1674 however, Augustine Grant junior, who was less affluent than his father, sold the Manor, the Hall and all his land to Rev. Thomas Williamson for £841 and it may be him that installed the Dutch Gables. Thomas's second wife out lived him and married William Welby who was created 1st Baronet of Denton in 1807. His descendants held the estate until 1944 but most of this time the manor house stood empty.
