Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Built circa 1900, this four-story Renaissance Revival-style apartment building is one of the best examples of the style in the city, with a polychromatic brick and terra cotta facade that helps make the various decorative details stand out. The building features a red brick first floor above a rusticated stone block base with bands of matching terra cotta trim, quoins, and a decorative terra cotta surround at the front entrance with fluted ionic columns with festoons between the volutes at the capitals, an arched transom over the central doorway, a bracketed cornice above the doorways with a faux balustrade at the top of the surround. Above this, the building is clad in gray brick with red brick and red terra cotta accents, including quoins, window trim, belt coursing at the base of the fourth floor, two three-story oriel windows on the Mariner Street facade and one three-story oriel window on the Allen Street facade, brick panels between the fourth floor windows, and a bracketed cornice with dentils below a paneled parapet that encloses the building’s low-slope roof. The building is a contributing structure in the Allentown Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
