Description
English:

In 1872 Watson Allen (1842-1912), a carpenter and Civil War veteran from New Jersey, moved with his wife and daughters to Fall City, Washington, where he opened a sawmill on nearly Tokul Creek. The business was successful and grew to include another mill at Monohon, on the east side of Lake Sammamish, which produced lumber, lath, shingles, and molding to be sold in Seattle. A prominent figure in Seattle, Mr. Allen was a Mason, and served in the Territorial legislature of Washington in 1881, and the state legislature in 1891. This business card for the Allen & Nelson Mill Co. lists Mr. Allen as President and Treasurer, James David Houghton (1857-1930) as Vice-President, and Henry Filmore Provine (1858-1922) as Secretary.
