Description
Svenska: "Unik komisk karakteriseringskonst" – "Underbar förmåga att av en nästan stum roll skapa en levande gestalt" – "Han ger även den socialt mest obetydliga person en egenartad värdighet" – "En psykologisk presentation av stor finess". Så heter det i några på måfå valda recensioner om Allan Edwall under de senaste Dramatenåren, som fört fram denne särpräglade jämte till den absoluta skådespelareliten. Synlikga bevis har han dessutom fått i form av utmärkelser – SvD:s Thaliapris 1960 och de Wahl-stipendiet 1962 – men den djupsinnige humanisten har alltid velat dra sig undan offentligheten. Han har den enkla och respektabla åsikten att konstnären ska tala genom sitt arbete. Den stora TV-publiken har kunnat glädja sig åt den tålmodige och samvetsgranne läraren i Pagnols "Topaze" och en överdådig gubbstudie Ionescos "Stolarna" med Ulla Sjöblom som gumman. För övrigt medverkade Edwall i "Kvartetten som sprängdes" under fjolåret och i "Misantropen".
