Summary
[edit]DescriptionAll Saints Churchyard (2) and Thomas Purdue - geograph.org.uk - 1267682.jpg |
English: All Saints Churchyard (2) and Thomas Purdue Across the gravestones a Norman lancet window can be seen on the outer wall of the chancel of the church and in front of that is the old Cross with a broken top. Behind the church is Manor Farm.
The old tombstones are lichen-covered and difficult to read but somewhere there is the old grave of Thomas Purdue an important bellfounder. Amongst the many bells he cast four are at Exeter Cathedral (nos 6, 8 and 9 out of the 12) and the clock bell named "Peter" in the North Tower. He died in 1711 aged 90. There is a property in Closworth named after him. |
