Summary
[edit]DescriptionAll Saints Church, Rise - geograph.org.uk - 907057.jpg |
English: All Saints Church, Rise, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. There was a church at Rise by 1221 but older church buildings here seem to have suffered centuries of neglect. In the 19th century the Church of All Saints, formerly St Mary's, was demolished and the current one built by local landowner Richard Bethell to designs by R D Chantrell. According to a plaque in the porch the first stone of the building was laid on 1st July 1844 and the church was consecrated on 12th November 1845. Some 12th to 14th century stonework was reused in the building. More information on the history of Rise and its church can be found at British History Online. http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=16157 |
