Although the church is medieval it is entered through a 15th C porch, with the door to the church itself being of 13th C, built in the Early English style. Just inside the entrance to the church is the font which dates from the 14th C which is octagonal and carved to show different styles of window tracery – Geometric, Decorated and Perpendicular. The base has a hollow stem and through the ornamental carving can be seen a three-headed monster in chains, perhaps suggestive of the restraint put upon evil through the power of baptism.

The tower arch is 14th C and the 13th C north door has been blocked up. There is a 12th C stone coffin in the churchyard. The octagonal spire was repaired in 1879 and in 1889 the re-roofing was done. The choir stalls are from the 19th C.

Under the carpet in the chancel are 3 brasses:- One is to Nicholas Deene and Catherine (daughter of Walter Pedwardine) his wife. He is represented in a civilian gown with collar and cuffs of fur, with a purse suspended from his girdle. His hat hangs behind him. Catherine wears a butterfly headdress of the time of Edward IV. Her dress also has a collar and cuffs of fur. Below is a group of nine sons, but the daughters are missing. The inscription is partly missing – only "Hic iacent Nicholas Deen et. Octoly Anno dm milimo CCC.." is left. From documents of 1634-42 it is known that it read “Under this monument lye buryed the bodyes of Nicholas Deen and Catherine his wife (daughter and herye of Walter Pedwardyn) who died the eleventh day of October Anno Dm 1479” The other is to James Deene who is shown in armour. He was the grandson of Nicholas Deene. His wife Margaret, daughter of William Armine, is wearing a mantle emblazoned with the family heraldic bearings over a dress with a chain belt. Her headdress is a lappeted cap of the time of Henry VII. Margaret married twice, her second husband was Sir John Markham, Knight. The inscription reads “Of your charity pray for the soules of James Deen and Margaret his wife the which James deceessed the XXIX day of April the yere of our Lord 1498 and the seyd Margaret died the XIX day of January the year of our Lord 1508 on whose soules thou have mercy…(the last word is missing). Three daughters are below the inscription, the sons are missing.

The chancel is mid to late 14th C. with 2 bays. On the south wall is a stone decorated with fruits and inscribed “Dr Hurst hath lyeing within this chancel seven children namely Anne, Lewis, Mary, Elizabeth, Charles, Sarayh and Anne. This is to their memory 1675.” Thomas Hurst was born in Barrowby in 1598. He was a chaplain to King Charles I.

The first organ in the church, by Forster & Andrews, was positioned under the tower in the 19th C and previous to this the church band would play for services. The present 2 manual organ was installed in 1870, and was later replaced by Wordsworth & Maskell. It is thought that the organ covers some interesting burials

The east window is late 14th C and has three lights installed with stained glass in 1884; the centre depicts the crucifixion and was given by Rector Rev George Earle Welby, the other two showing the Virgin Mary and Mary Clopas, were by subscription and cost a total of £140.
