Summary
[edit]DescriptionAliquippa p&le (2077332655).jpg |
The Pittsburgh & Lake Erie was an important regional railroad for passenger and freight. The P&LE participated in the nineteenth century practice of railroads to erect arichtecturally superior and attractive rail stations - often elaborately landscaped. The practice was pioneered by the Boston & Albany with H H Richardson & Frederick Law Olmstead. This is one of five of the remaining stations with particular appeal - the group being in various states of repair. This is in Aliquippa, along the Ohio River in Allegheny County, PA, where the P&LE had many operations. It is in excellent condition, although frozen in time at the point of the last tenant's bankruptcy. Work literally left in place on the desks. Tudor detailing on this station. |
