English: Alexandra Palace. The rose window on the south-east front. Image made by hjuk who is also copyright holder
This window was renovated and partially redesigned by architect E.T. Spashett for the Ministry of Works in 1947, following WWII bomb damage. The broken pieces of glass were still lying shattered on the floor, and the challenge was to rescue as many pieces as possible, for incorporation into the renovated window. This was one of Spashett's first civilian tasks after being demobbed from wartime service as RAF pilot. |
