English: Photograph of Persian Cross unearthed from Alengad Church published by Archbishop Augustine Kandathil in 'Ernakulam Missam' Magazine. Alangad Cross
"On January 20th, an ancient Cross belonging to this category of Pahlavi inscribed St. Thomas Crosses was incidentally discovered from inside the Cross at east side of the Alangad Church by Rev. Dr. Varghese Panjikkaran. Gouvea, the historian of Archbishop Menesis had witnessed such a Cross erected at Kodungalloor. The faithful at Kodungalloor had immense love and affection to the said Cross. He also mentions that even the people of other religions used to resort to the Cross for their needs and cure from diseases, and had got healed. It won't be wrong to believe that after the decline of Kodungallor, the Cross was moved to Alangad, a strong center of Nasranis (St. Thomas Christians). Various other factors also lead to the conclusion that this Cross at Alangad is the ancient Cross of Kodungalloor." |
