Description

The bronze skull is located at the eastern entrance to the cemetery. From St. Joseph's Church, the direct path leads across the church square past Albert Wider's Creation to this entrance with the well-known vanitas-symbol for the transience of all earthly things. The original accompanying serpent of the skull, which reminded us of the first fall of man in paradise, has disappeared years ago. The skull confronts visitors with their own dying and end of life. One enters the realm of death, so to speak. The following three revival scenes seem all the more wonderful: the Raising of the son of the widow of Nain, the Raising of Jairus' daughter and of Lazarus of Bethany.
