correct the tendency to pronation is tohave the patient walk along two boards set up at an angle ofi6o°-i65°. The treatment of flat-foot is popularly associated with the useof a support or brace. The supports and braces in use vary froma simple pad of felt placed beneath the arch to a complicated con-structed apparatus surrounding the foot and extending up theleg. Townsend has written an excellent article on The Abuseof Fiat-Foot Supports. He calls attention to the fact that whenflat-foot does exist it does not necessarily follow that a braceshould be used. Slight degrees of trouble may not need a sup-port, while severe degrees may require operative interference.Extreme spasm, deformity or an inflammatory condition are con-traindications for the use of a brace.
