"the Farthest Mosque" also known as al-Aqsa, is an Islamic holy place in the Old City of Jerusalem. The site that includes the Dome of the Rock is also referred to as al-Haram ash-Sharif or "Sacred Noble Sanctuary", built over a site also known as the Temple Mount, the holiest site in Judaism, the place where the First and Second Temples are accepted to have stood. Jews have traditionally regarded the location of the "rock" as the holiest spot on Earth, the site of the Holy of Holies during the Temple Period. According to Jewish tradition, the same stone is the site where Abraham prepared to sacrifice his son Isaac. It is also widely considered as the third holiest site in Islam, Muslims believe that Muhammad was transported from the Sacred Mosque in Mecca to al-Aqsa during the Night Journey and According to Islamic tradition, the rock (in the Dome of the Rock) is the spot from where Muhammad ascended to Heaven. In Christianity, during the time of the Byzantine Empire, the same area was chosen by Constantine's mother to built a small church, calling it the Church of St. Cyrus and St. John, later on enlarged and called the Church of the Holy Wisdom
