English: Born on 3 August 1956, Akhtar Hassan Khan Gorchani is from Lal-garh, Dist. Rajanpur (Punjab). He graduated from Government College, Lahore in 1976. In 1980, he sat for the competitive exams for the Central Superior Servises on all-Pakistan basis and stood 43rd. He was assigned to the Police Service of Pakistan. During his tenure in the police, he has received a Bachelor of Law degree and a Master of Arts degree in Politcal Science. He has served in various capacities in the provinces of the Punjab and Sindh. As Assistant Superintendent of Police, he was posted at Tank (NWFP), Layya, Jhang, and Wazirabad (Punjab). As SP and SSP he served as SP-Punjab Constabulary, Multan, Additional SP Multan; SP Lodhran; SP Traffic (Highways), Multan; SSP Sukkur; AIG Welfare, Karachi; SSP Jacobabad; SSP Hyderabad; SP Thatta; SSP Gujranwala; SSP West Karachi; AIG Operations, Karachi; Deputy Director, FIA, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad. He also represented Pakistan in 2004-05 in United Nations peace mission in Kosovo as Pakistan Police Contingent Commander. Since his return to Pakistan, he has been posted as Deputy Inspector General of Police, Larkana, Regional Police officer Multan & Director General Intelligence Bureau, Nowadays he is performing his duties as Minister for Community Affairs in Pakistan Embassy Washington DC.
He is author of "The Sindh Police, brief history & developments" published by Oxford University Press in 2007. His achievements include arrest of hijackers and release of the passengers & crew of PIA Fokker flight PK 544 (Gwader to Karachi) which was hujacked by BLA activists on May 25, 1998. http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/4257550.Akhtar_ |
