Summary

[edit]
Description

Ajaccio is the capital of Corsica, a French island in the Mediterranean Sea. It was the birthplace of French Emperor Napoléon Bonaparte in 1769.

The town, which dates from about the 2nd century AD lies on a sheltered bay, almost surrounded by hills covered in trees. Elsewhere on the island there are large mountains.

During World War two no Jew was executed or deported from Corsica through the protection afforded by its people and its government. This event now allows Corsica to aspire to the title "righteous among the nations".
