Description

c/n 3083. Built 1940. Previously part of the Skyfame collection but grounded in 1970 and now on display suspended in the ‘AirSpace’ hangar at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford Airfield, Cambridgeshire, UK. 26th January 2018

The following history for V3388 comes from the IWM website:-

“Built in 1940, with the constructors number 3083. It was accepted by 15 M.U. on Nov 30, 1940 before test flying, and was removed to Broxbourne where it was stored with wings and engines not fitted. It was assembled on site by Marshall's in June 1942, and transferred to 8 M.U. at Little Rissington on Sept 24th. At the end of the year it was under repair by Portsmouth, Southsea & Isle of Wight Aviation Ltd, but returned to 15 M.U. Wroughton on Jan 25 1943. Remained on their charge until it was sold in May 1946 to Boulton Paul Aircraft Ltd. Boulton Paul's registered it as G-AHTW, and its C.of A was issued at Wolverhampton on June 19 1946. It served them for general communications flying for 14 years, though it was not very active, until the C.of A expired in Dec 1960. It was transferred to the care of the Wolverhampton Aero Club, but was not flown again until it went to Elstree in Feb 1963 for repainting prior to its delivery to Staverton on March 25 1964. V3388 had become unairworthy by the 1970s due to glue deterioration in its wooden construction.”
