Description
English: View of the U.S. Navy Naval Air Station Quonset Point, Rhode Island (USA). The parked aircraft include Douglas SBD Dauntless, Grumman F4F Wildcat, Grumman F6F Hellcat and Grumman TBF Avenger types. Some light-coloured aircraft in the center appear to be Northrop BT. The Grumman F6F-3 Hellcats in the right foregound were assigned to Fighting Squadron 50 (VF-50), which was established on 15 August 1943. Also visible are Douglas SBD-5 Dauntless of Bombing Squadron 2 (VB-2), also (re-)established in mid-1943. Therfore the photo was most probalby taken during the last quarter of 1943. VB-2 left for the Pacific theater of war in December 1943.
