Description

Aircraft during a fly-over of aircraft over Manila at the conclusion of the exercise "Oceanlink" on 13 May 1958. "Oceanlink" was a military exercise of the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO), held between 1 May and 13 May 1958. 24 ships and submarines from eight nations participated, in the largest SEATO exercise yet. Maneouvers were held between Singapore and the Philippines. Visible are:

  • two Royal Navy Douglas Skyraider AEW.1 of D flight, 849 Naval Air Squadron from the aircraft carrier HMS Bulwark (R08);
  • eleven Royal Australian Navy Fairey Gannet AS.1 of 816 Squadron from the aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne (R21);
  • seven Grumman S2F-1 Tracker of Anti-Submarine Squadron 21 (VS-21) "Lighting Bolts" from the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea (CVS-47).
