Description
English: Air Raid Precautions on the British Home Front- Anti-gas Instruction, C 1941
This photograph is a Ministry of Information posed photograph showing a woman dabbing at a gas splash on her hand with a cloth, which would clearly be used in a leaflet, poster or exhibition on anti-gas measures. It may be that she is wiping off anti-gas ointment which she has already applied to her hand, it may be an illustration of what not to do, as civilians were advised to wash blister gas off with soap and water if no bleach ointment or cream was available, or it may be that she is dabbing a solvent, such as paraffin, onto her hand, as this will draw out and weaken the gas.

This tag is designed for use where there may be a need to assert that any enhancements (eg brightness, contrast, colour-matching, sharpening) are in themselves insufficiently creative to generate a new copyright. It can be used where it is unknown whether any enhancements have been made, as well as when the enhancements are clear but insufficient. For known raw unenhanced scans you can use an appropriate {{PD-old}} tag instead. For usage, see Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag.

Note: This tag applies to scans and photocopies only. For photographs of public domain originals taken from afar, {{PD-Art}} may be applicable. See Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag.
