Description
English: Air Force helicopters fly DOE radiation monitoring personnel and photographers over Yucca Flat during tests. Yucca Flat, where most nuclear weapons tests are conducted, is dotted with more than 200 subsidence craters from underground explosions. The explosions produce underground cavities. When the cavities collapse, they usually form surface subsidences. The craters vary in diameter and depth depending on the explosive yield, depth of burial, and geology. Dry Yucca Lake is visible in the distance.
