English: A manuscript of Tarikh al-Ṭabarī "The History of the Prophets and Kings" (Arabic: تاريخ الرسل والملوك Tārīkh al-Rusul wa al-Mulūk) Held at the Fazil Ahmed Pasha Library in Turkey (record number 1043). In this manuscript al-Ṭabarī recordes the Muslim leader Aswad ibn Sari's poetry in praising the Ahwazi Arabs for their support to Muslim armies against the Persian army in the battle of Ahwaz in 17Hijri (638CE)- (note: the word "Al-Ahwaz الأهــواز" is highlighted by a red line in the manuscript) below is the original poem in Arabic and Its translation in English:
لعـمـرك ما أضاع بنو أبينا ولكـن حـافـظـوا فـيـمن يطيع أطـاعـوا ربّهـم وعـصـاه قـوم أضـاعـوا أمـره فـيـمـن يضيع مـجـوس لا يـنـهـنـهـهـا كتاب فـلاقـوا كـبّـة فـيـهـا قـبوع وولّى الهـرمـزان عـلى جـواد سـريـع الشّـدّ يـثفنه الجميع وخــلّى سـرّة الأهــواز كـرهـاً غداة الجسر إذ نجم الرّبيع
I swear to you our brothers didn't deviate from the righteous path But they submitted their obedience to God They obeyed God and a nation (Persians) lost in their disobedience of God Those Majūsis (Persians) who don't keep an oath Were surprised with an unexpected strike (Ahwazi Arabs strike) And hormozan flew with his horse, and his army followed him and in spring morning he left Al-Ahwaz (Khuzestan) center with a grudge |
