Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Caricature in the satirical newspaper Chantecler, published in the Spanish city of Cartagena on July 17, 1910.

In the caricature the city is depicted as a woman who declares her love to an English man who personifies the British company The Carthagena Mining and Water Co. Ltd., popularly known as the «English Water Company». At the bottom of the image is contemplated the Monte Sacro water tank, operated by Manchester-based company.

The water supply to Cartagena was a problem for much of the 20th century, as the British Water Company could never meet demand and potability conditions worsened over time. The issue was not resolved until 1945, with the arrival of the flows from the Taibilla.
