Summary

[edit]
Description

This is the condenser unit of a split air conditioning system. This unit rejects heat outside the building while a fan coil cools the interior of the building.

Copper pipes route refrigerant; the larger pipe, with deteriorating black insulation, is the return for refrigerant in gaseous form referred to as Refrigerant Suction (RS) and the smaller pipe delivers Refrigerant Liquid (RL) to the fan coil unit inside the building.

The flexible connection on the left is for power and the one on the right has a low voltage cable for control.

The disconnect switch and condenser unit have started to rust, the thermal insulation on the cooling return line is completely deteriorated and on the supply line, the insulation is missing. Both pipes should be insulated.
