Summary
[edit]DescriptionGummersbach (DE), Aggertalsperre -- 2022 -- 0401.jpg |
The Aggertalsperre is a reservoir located in the Aggertal valley in the Bergisches Land region of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It was built in the 1920s and serves as an important water source for the region as well as for flood control and power generation. It covers an area of about 90 hectares and has a capacity of about 5.6 million cubic metres of water. The reservoir is fed by the Agger, a tributary of the Sieg. The dam is surrounded by picturesque nature and offers a variety of flora and fauna. The main purpose of the Agger dam is to ensure a reliable source of water for the drinking water supply and industry in the region. The collected water is treated in a waterworks and then fed into the water network. The dam also plays an important role in regulating the flow of water, especially during rainfall and snowmelt, to minimise the risk of flooding in the Agger valley. In addition, the Aggertalsperre is also used to generate energy. Electricity is generated by releasing the dammed water via turbines. This contribution to renewable energy supply contributes to the sustainability and environmental friendliness of the region. The surrounding area offers numerous hiking trails, cycle paths and opportunities for fishing, sailing and rowing.
