Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Agate-bearing lava at Scurdie Ness in Scotland. The peninsula of Scurdie Ness is composed of vesicular basaltic andesite 'Ferryden' lavas of the Montrose Volcanic Formation of Early Devonian age. Quartz crystals and agates form in the vesicles, and are easy to find among the fragments of rock along the shore. These larger ones are in the solid rock, however. A pound coin gives scale.
