hopeful, and be impressed withthe feeling of a divine cause at work for theamelioration and security of the race. Aswe witness the hosts moved by thought andwill, and yet somehow in spite of themselves,thwarted in the wrong, and encouraged in theright, we can but recognize a Supreme Beingand loving Father who is directing and control-ling in the physical and spiritual realms. On leaving this land our last reflections arequite certain to be centred upon its unsurpassedscenery which is sure to affect the mind andheart, as its works of art and forms of societycannot. In Switzerland we are meeting inces-santly with the things that artists delight topaint, and poets to praise; the green valleys,the flower-bordered streams, the evergreen hills,the granite shafts, the snow-crowned peaks, andthe profound solitudes in the depths below and onthe heights above, — all these, and ten thousandmore, come sweeping before the eye, as weramble or muse in this land of beauty, sub-limity, and grandeur.
