Summary
[edit]DescriptionAfrica 1987.65 (1463491714).jpg | As I was wandering about the huge complex of ruins, I encountered a robed Egyptian with few words of english who offered to show me something "very special". I followed him with increasing misgivings as we left the more frequented areas of the temples. So I quickly returned to the Great Hall found a friend of mine there to act as a wingman, and together we followed our "guide" into a closed off area, where we came to an old, locked, iron gate. Suddenly a second robed fugure appeared with a key. My friend waited outside the gate ( I had thoughts of being found during some future archeological dig ), and I continued onwards with one of the robed figures. We descended steps into a dark, underground corridor which ended at a chamber, dimly lit by a small opening in the ceiling. The second robed character then appeared at the opening above us, holding a mirror with which he directed daylight, revealing this startling statue of the goddess Sekmet. My guide then told me "You take picture!" I wasn't going to try to explain that I had no flash and it was too dark, so I took a picture, and am now very glad I did. When I returned to my friend back at the gate I gave each of my guides an Egyptian Pound. It was a very worthwhile and memorable excursion. |
