English: Afghan villagers show up to work on an irrigation ditch project along Route 515 in Delaram District, Farah province, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Jan. 21. The project will ensure that local crop fields have sufficient water, increasing their output. Marines with 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, and Combat Logistics Battalion 3 recently completed Operation Gateway III along Route 515 in southern Afghanistan. The operation was a strategically planned effort to clear the route of deadly improvised explosive devices laid by insurgents and provide an alliance presence. CLB-3 is the logistics combat element and 3/8 is the ground combat element of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force - Afghanistan. |
