Summary

[edit]
Description

English: Evolution of chemical composition of the liquid steel, during the blowing in a Thomas (basic Bessemer) converter.

The air blown is a mixture of oxygen and steam. This process is called VLN (Very Low Nitrogen).

The beginning of the blow may possibly be carried out with air enriched with 30% oxygen. This practice allows to melt 6 to 9% of scraps, and to decrease the nitrogen content in the steel.
