Title
Aesica brooch fragment
Description
English: An incomplete Roman copper-alloy Aesica brooch dating to AD 50 - 75. The upper bow of the brooch remains, the wings, lower bow and pin are missing. The upper bow is comprised of a sub-triangular curved plate. At the top of the bow is a small complete attachment loop which is perpendicular to the plate, this would have supported the wings of the brooch. The plate is decorated, in the centre is a raised semi-circular rib. At either side of the rib the plate is decorated with three teardrop shaped petals in a triangular formation. The bottom of the upper bow has three circular projections, one at both corners and one in the centre. The rear of the brooch is undecorated, although the centre projection terminates in an old break.
