Summary

[edit]
Description
English: 1963 aerial view of Hangar S labeled with signs that read "Manned Spacecraft Center" and "Pre-Flight Operations Division". Visible in this photo are the North and South Annexes, the Primate Training Area at upper left, oxygen and water servicing areas behind, and general storage buildings at upper right. From 1959 to 1963, the 61,300-square-foot facility was a hub of activity as America prepared for the program to send men on their first trips into space during Project Mercury. Hangar S was the location of spacecraft preflight processing, astronaut training and crew quarters.
