Nederlands: De heilige Agnes, die om haar christelijk geloof werd gedood door de Romeinen en daarom als martelares werd vereerd, is door Adriaen van Wesel uitgebeeld als een bevallige middeleeuwse jonkvrouw. Agnes staat op een grondje met het gebogen rechterbeen naar voren, waardoor het bovenlichaam even naar links overhelt. Met de rechterhand houdt zij bij de heup haar lange kleed op, met de linker drukt zij het kleed, waarvan een prop boven de arm uitsteekt, tegen zich aan. Haar hoofd met peinzende gelaatsuitdrukking is iets naar rechts gewend en vertoont welig haar, dat door een band met parels en rozetten wordt samengehouden. Het kleed heeft nauwsluitende mouwen en een ronde halsopening. Aan haar voeten ligt het lam, dat naar haar opziet en dat zij aan een leiband houdt. |
