Summary

[edit]
Description

Part of the shady bed this spring. The moschatel is doing very nicely... Recent molecular analysis (DNA etc) have shown that it is a close relative of the elder (Sambucus) and Viburnum, which now belong to the Adoxaceae.

In case you're wondering, the Caprifoliaceae, to which Sambucus and Viburnum used to belong was found to be a related but separate group but which still includes things like Lonicera, Weigela, Abelia and Linnaea. The Scabious and Valerian families are also in this branch of the flowering plant family tree.
