Title
Adorno
Description
English: Adorno for an incense burner or theatre-type censer. Mould made. Open cotton bud or "trefoil" variant. Almost complete except for a small loss on the top edge. At one end (top) the cotton in spiral form has double lobes curving inward, one clockwise and the other in an anticlockwise direction. Two round-ended slightly elongate lobes at each side have down-curving spirals, with double lobes curving inward, as at the top, raised above the centre. The surfaces of these features are textured with indented dots. At the base is a triangle with two grooves and a rounded apex, representing the stem. The back is flatish, with the remains of a cementing substance or flattened clay pellet attached. White undercoat pigment survives in the textural dots and recesses of the front, edges of the back and cement pellet. Red pigment overlying the white also survives in the recesses of the front. Yellow is found around the upper stem.
