Description |
English: Admiral Sir James Somerville, Commander-in-Chief Eastern Fleet, inspecting Wrens in Colombo, Ceylon, 17 July 1944. The Women's Royal Naval Service: Admiral Sir James Somerville Commander -in-Chief Eastern Fleet inspecting Wrens serving with the Eastern Fleet in Colombo, Ceylon. To celebrate his sixty second birthday he held an inspection of Wrens, with nearly 250 of them were on parade. After the inspection they marched past the saluting base to music from a Royal Marine band. As the Admiral was leaving the Wrens sang "Happy Birthday to You". |
