Description
English: Original caption reads: "View of Adderley Street, Cape Town, from opposite the Custom House. The chief thoroughfare of Cape Town does not impress one as being very attractive on turning the corner of the Dock Road, as the shops, &c., on either side of the lower end of the street are unworthy of notice. When, however, the Railway Station is reached, the visitor is struck by the handsome buildings which line the thoroughfare. Adderley Street has undergone wonderful changes during the last ten years, and has been much improved. ; it is now a busy thoroughfare, two lines of trams pass down the street, a cab stand is stationed nearly for the whole length, and nine or ten electric lamps illuminate the street at night, which presents a gay and animated appearance."
